Interest Rates... Rates continued rising in the past week. Freddie Mac announced that for the week ending December 31, 30-year fixed rates averaged 5.14%, up from 5.05% the week before. The average for 15-year fixed rose to 4.54%. Adjustables were mixed with the average for one-year adjustables falling to 4.33% and five-year adjustables increasing to 4.44%. A year ago 30-year fixed rates were at 5.10%. “Although long-term rates rose for the fourth week in a row, they still remain affordable by historical standards,” said Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac vice president and chief economist.
